Does Magnetic Therapy Really Work for Pain Relief?

is a practice that uses the power of a magnetic field in order to promote health and treat various illnesses. Its basis lies in the body’s and the earth’s abilities to produce electricity and magnetic fields. Those who practice magnetic field therapy believe electromagnetic changes in the body, the earth and technological forms from sources such as radio and television waves have both emotional and physical effects in people. Practitioners believe all these factors must be in balance in order to maintain good health.
There are many reasons why people turn to magnetic therapy. The list of afflictions is very long including cancer, depression, joint conditions such as arthritis and overstretched or injuries to muscles, migraines, ligaments and tendons including strains and sprains. Many also use magnetic therapy for pain in all forms from acute and mild to chronic. Magnetic field therapy is believed to be safe when used with conventional medicine and typically has no side effects. However, people with pacemakers should not use this method because the magnets can interfere with their functioning.
One may find many kinds of magnetic therapy products on the market. Some of the most familiar include jewelry such as

and necklaces. However, there are many other products used in magnetic therapy including wraps or arm, ankle or wrist support as well as others for the back and waist, forehead and thumbs. One can even find magnetic chairs or seat cushions for back support as well as magnetic mattresses, usually made of memory foam or some other form of comfort material. There are even magnetic pads for pet.
However, the question remains: does magnetic therapy work? Although there have been studies looking into the merits of this form of healing, the results tend to be mixed. There is uncertainty as to whether many of the products on the market are capable of producing a significant magnetic field beneath the skin’s surface. This is why it is important for someone interested in this method of healing consult with a health care practitioner and find products that are accountable and show true promise. One should choose a product that is strong enough to penetrate the skin, which means it should have a range from at least 800 to more than 10,000 gauss for a product to relieve pain. A magnet on the lower end of this range will penetrate the tissue and increase blood flow.
